Enkelte byger.

Mvh,

Daniel Ingebretsen, Styrmann Christian Radich

Congratulations to the winner of the Instagram competition!

A Christain Radich hoodie is send to the winner.

As a trainee, you will participate in the duties on board according to your own condition and interests. Being a trainee is a positive challenge for body and mind. No previous knowledge is required in order to sail with Christian Radich.

The more trainees who will climb aloft, the more we are able to set sails. We also need trainees on deck, to pull the ropes. If you don’t want to climb the rig, you must inform your watch leader. During calm seas, trainees often practice knots, sailing skills and seamanship.

Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams, which have 4 hours duty and 8 hours off- both day and night.

Lookout: The lookout are placed in the front of the ship and will notice everything that is observed in the sea: Boats, fishing gear, wreckage or other floating goods. You use the ship’s clock for signal to the helm.

Helmsman: The helmsman steers the ship under the guidance of the crew. For many, this is a great experience.

Fire and safety watch: The safety-watch patrols the ship every half hour, starting on deck and following a designated patrol route.

Pantry: One or two trainees from each shift may help in the pantry.

Other tasks: When trainees are not assigned to a special task, you participate in sail maneuvers, regular maintenance or help with cleaning.

Christian Radich is now in Las Palmas.

The ship will stay in Las Palmas until depature November 5th.

Christian Radich came a little behind from the start in Torbay, but she does her best to keep up. The internet is not too good, but on www.sailonboard.com you can follow the race, and you can also be updated on the map: https://www.sailonboard.com/yb-satellite-tracking/  Here is the official report from day 2:

Race 1 of the incredible Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta is in full swing, after the race start in Torbay yesterday (Wednesday 19 April) afternoon.

The vessels have made steady progress toward WP 1 (Way Point 1) off Ushant, following the light-wind start yesterday. The Bermudan cutter Peter von Danzig (Germany) is in the lead on the water, just six miles ahead of Rona II (UK). Wylde Swan (The Netherlands) is a further five miles behind her, with Jolie Brise (UK) within sight and closing her fast. Jolie Brise is in first place on corrected time (handicap) with the French Naval yacht Hosanna (France) in second place on corrected time.

Race Control is waiting for confirmation from Vera Cruz (Portugal) that she has officially retired from Race 1 and is proceeding directly to the second port of the race, Sines, due to the light winds.

“The wind is forecast is to remain in a favourable easterly direction and to increase gradually over the next couple of days, so the sailing conditions should be ideal for the passage across the Bay of Biscay.”

Paul Bishop, Race Director.

The jubilee-voyages along the coast of Norway are popular and the voyage from Tromsø to Hammerfest are sold out. Our friends, sailing with us every summer are interested in the summer-voyages, and we also get a lot of interest and request from people who have never sailed a tall ship.

They all realise that this is an extraordinary way to see and feel the beautiful coast of Norway. If you want to be sure to join on your favourable voyage, you have to book it as soon as possible.

You can book online: https://web-prod-radc.carus.com, and do the payment at the same time, or you can send us the bookingform: booking-summer-voyages. If you chooses the last, you will first pay a deposit and then the rest latest a month before departure. There is also an additional administration fee of € 15.

Please contact us if you have any questions, either on phone: +47 22 47 82 70 or email: postmaster@radich.no

Working togetherFrom the first day when I was on board everything was excellent because the crew was so social and we all had communication with each other until the last day. The point is that this voyage change you in many ways that you don’t know and you learn new experiences which you don’t learn anywhere else. Anyway, if you are lucky to travel with Christian Radich I would say you’re going to have the most spectacular trip ever.

Yours, Fotis Giannopoulos

It is now getting close to departure for the winter-voyage with Christian Radich, January 4th. You have to be onboard latest 5 pm. If you will arrive the day before, please inform us if you arrive after 8 pm.  Christian Radich will be at the cruiseterminal, easily seen. The airport is located approx. 18 km’s south of Las Palmas. There are two means of transport:

  1. Bus, which is cheap. A direct bus (no. 60) leaves from the departure hall (above the arrival hall) once per hour. Ask the information desk! Leave the bus at the Cruise terminal roundabout, see map underneath.
  1. Taxi, which costs approx. € 35. Taxis take up to four passengers, so those who join forces may get an affordable transportation solution. Ask the taxi to stop at the cruise terminal. It is called in Spanish “Muelle Sta. Catalina” (muelle = quay, pronounced: moejje)

On this link https://my.yb.tl/christianradich/ you can always see where Christian Radich is.

Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. You can read more about the job you do as trainee on our web site: https://www.radich.no/en/join-us.

 What should I pack?

We are in southern waters, but  even here, the most important thing to remember when packing is clothes that are waterproof, windproof and good shoes. It can be cold, especially  on night watches. Here is link to the packing-list: https://www.radich.no/en/packinglist/

Join Christian Radich on her week`s voyage around the Canaries. What can be more delightful than a voyage around the Canaries in early January, it gives you a taste of summer and makes a good start of the year. It will be a wonderful week away from everyday life where we will enjoy the weather, wind and sea! Read more. Download the flyers: Around the Canaries

This year’s aquavit cruise was a big success and you can already book a spot for next year’s event.

Next year’s aquavit cruise in the Oslo fjord will be held on the 26th of August. On this cool summer evening we will be serving a shrimp buffet on board, and you will get to taste aquavits that complement the fruits of the sea. If the mood is right, maybe a dance on the deck is in place?

More fjord cruise events will be available for booking in January.

This has been quite a summer! It began in Oslo with aquavit, pirates and blues music in the Oslo fjord, and from there we set sails and headed south. The first voyage brought us to Kiel and the festivities of Kieler Woche. From there we sailed to Deilfzijl and later to Antwerp, where the first Tall Ships Race regatta kicked off. On the first leg we completely lost wind, but on the regatta from Lisbon to Cadiz we won second place in class A and the prize for most international crew with a total of 18 nationalities on board. The last Tall Ships Race regatta brought us to La Coruña, and via Le Havre we sailed to Blyth. From there we joined the North Sea Tall Ships regatta to Gothenburg, for which we won second place in class A. What an adventure it’s been!

We would like to thank everyone who has sailed with us this summer for making it a truly great one with many memorable moments. We love to receive photos from our trainees, and if you wonder what this summer has looked like through various camera lenses, you can see some photos on Facebook.

We hope to see you again next year!

Due to last minute cancellations, we now have a few available spots on the North Sea Regatta between Blyth and Gothenburg August 29th – September 3rd. Hurry up and book a spot if you want to extend your vacation and join us on board!

Blyth is located north of Newcastle, and from there we will embark on a regatta suited for enthusiastic sailors. Read more about the regatta and secure a spot here. You can also read about what you can expect as a trainee on board Christian Radich.

It is now getting close to departure for the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta with Christian Radich, from Blyth to Gothenburg. On the map, you can see where you find Christian Radich in Blyth. You can always keep track of where Christian Radich is.

Blyth and Gothenburg

In Blyth, hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to show up for the events, which include fireworks by night, live music and grand parades. You can read more about the events here. If you are spending the night on board August 28th, the deck will be rented out for an event, and we recommend you to go ashore and feel the atmosphere in port. Check-in will be as usual.

You can read about the arrangements  in Gothenburg here.

On Saturday evening we have signed the crew and trainees up for the “Crew Stage Challenge”. Each crew performs in front of the audience ashore, and a jury will award the best ship. If you have any ideas for a song or something fun that the trainees can rehearse on board, you can contact the steward. All ideas are welcome!

In Gothenburg, the deck will be rented out September 4th and 5th. The guests have no access  below deck, but we recommend you to be ashore and join the festivities.

When the ship leaves Blyth, each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. Right this moment we are waiting impatiently for the winds to catch our sails, but the Tall Ships Races are not just about winning a regatta! Team spirit and cooperation are important for secure sailing and driving the ship forwards, and the fact that our trainees range from youth to pensioners and come from all corners of the world makes sailing extra fun and challenging. This year we have trainees from more than 20 countries on four continents – Europe, Asia, South America and USA – on board.

When you’re out to sea, weather conditions determine your living conditions and general well being, and are therefore a natural topic for conversation. Trainees come together to solve practical tasks and share experiences, which makes it easy to find something to talk about. These are some of the reasons why sailing is an excellent platform for people of all ages from all over the world to gather around!

You find updated news on Sail Training International`s website: https://www.sailtraininginternational.org/news:

“Race One of The Tall Ships Races 2016 starts five miles off the coast of Torbay, UK. The STI Race Committee needs to start the race here due to international shipping regulations out of Antwerp, through the Dover Straits and into the English Channel. The traffic separation schemes through these areas of high volume commercial shipping mean that sailing routes are unsuitable for the tall ships race fleet.

“Torbay offers an ideal start area for the international fleet, particularly the large square rigged sailing vessels – and coincidentally it is the same race start area and route in the first ever tall ships race 60 years ago.”

You can also follow the fleet’s progress via the Yellow Brick tracking system from the Sail Training International website: https://www.sailtraininginternational.org/events/2016-the-tall-ships-races/yellow-brick

It is now getting close to departure for the first Tall Ships Race with Christian Radich from Antwerp to Lisbon. On this map you can see where Christian Radich is moored. You can always keep track of where Christian Radich is.

Antwerp and Lisbon

In Antwerp, the festival for the Tall Ships Races has started. There is a lot going on, you can read more about it here. If you come on July 9th, the deck will be leased for an event and we recommend you to go ashore and feel the atmosphere in the harbour area.

You can read about the festivities  in Lisbon here.  If you will join the ship to Cadiz, or if you will stay some nights in Lisbon, we hope you will join the crewparade on July 23.

When the ship leaves Antwerp, each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. You can read more about your role as a trainee on our web site. If you haven’t received our handbook, please contact us at postmaster@radich.no and we will send you one.

We are looking forward to welcome you on board the Christian Radich!

Earlier today, an email including tips and information about this summer’s voyages was sent to this summer’s trainees on board Christian Radich. If you have booked a voyage on board but did not receive the email, it is possible that we either have the wrong email address or that the email is caught in your spam filter. The email includes the following information:

Traveling to and from ports
You must book transportation to and from ports yourself, and to make it easier for you to plan your trip we have listed some traveling options. These are only suggestions, and there are plenty of alternatives. If you combine the voyage with a vacation, other routes may be more sensible.

Valid passport
It is important that your passport is valid during the voyage. If your passport is about to expire, we recommend that you renew it as soon as possible.
All trainees must submit their passport number. If you have not sent us yours yet, please email it to postmaster@radich.no no later than two weeks before departure.

If you are over 70 years old, you must send us a health form. If you have not done so already, please email it to us as soon as possible.

Expectations
Do you wonder what to expect on a voyage? The most important information about voyages can be found on our website. The quotes below is feedback from trainees who have previously sailed with us, which may give you an idea of how some people experience going on a voyage:

I was apprehensive and anxious about the voyage, being with strangers and if I was capable to do some tasks but after the experience I don’t know why I was so worried. The people are so friendly and caring as we’re all on the same boat, quite literally. You form a bond with the crew and the trainees on your watch, making unforgettable friendships and experiences together. The crew are extremely helpful when it comes to tasks and do their best to make sure your comfortable, they always keep you up to date and well fed with knowledge. I’ll never forget the Christian Radich, it becomes home, I miss it very much and hope to return.

One of my favourite moments on the Christian Radich happened whilst we were all on duty waiting for our next orders. It was quite cold so whilst waiting we decided to all start singing loudy and clapping and even managed to get the crew involved. We then decided to teach people The Waves of Tory (an Irish dance) which turned out to be a great way to warm up. The sing songs were hilarious and a great way of bonding. I know I have made some lifelong friends on the voyage and I wouldn’t have changed any part of it for the world. Thank you Christian Radich for letting me join you on such a fantastic adventure!

Have you ordered a handbook but not received it yet? Download it from our website or contact us at postmaster@radich.no and we will send you a copy.

There are still some available spots on this summer’s voyage from Cádiz to La Coruña! Cruise-in-Company starts in Cadiz, first with a short race to Sagres, before the fleet goes north along the coast of Algarve and to La Coruña, where the leg ends. La Coruña is a great city that has previously been awarded for the best Tall Ship festivals.

Do you find it tricky getting to and from ports? Here are some tips:

Cádiz
The closest airport is Jerez, roughly one hour by train from Cádiz. Ryanair flies to Jerez, as do local airlines from for instance Madrid and Barcelona. There is a bus from central Malaga to Cádiz. The bus ride takes approx. 4 hours and costs ca. €40. It is also possible to fly to Madrid and travel to Cádiz by high speed train, which takes approx. 3,5 hours. Traveling from Sevilla, it is possible to take a bus to Cádiz.

www.airport-malaga.com
Bus from Malaga: www.venta.avanzabus.com
Bus Jerez – Cádiz: https://siu.cmtbc.es/en/horarios_lineas.php?municipioLineas=42

La Coruña
Flying via Madrid is the quickest way to travel to and from La Coruña.  There is no bus from central La Coruña to the airport, but taxis are available and the port is approx. a 15 minute drive from the station.

It is also possible to travel by train to Santiago De Compostela, which takes a bit less than an hour. Ryanair, among other airlines, fly to Santiago. A stopover should be calculated.

After Tall Ships Races, you can join Christian Radich from Bilbao to charming Honfleur. Last year a Norwegian travel agency arranged a voyage on board Christian Radich. They will do the same this year and the voyage will go from Bilbao August 17 and end in Honfleur, August 22. There will be places open for other trainees to join the voyage as well. As always, we try to put all the English-speaking trainees in the same team.

From: 17.08.2016 12:00
To: 22.08.2016 12:00

The price is € 775

Send us an e-mail if you are interested in this voyage: postmaster@radich.no

This year’s cruise in Company has it all! It starts from Cádiz in Southern Spain with a short race to Sagres. From here, we lower our shoulders and sail north against A Coruna. We will do one or two stops on our way, where we haven’t decided yet. There are so many charming ports along the Portugeese coast, it’s hard to choose.

There are still places left, the price is: € 1295

Departure from Cádiz, July 31

Arrival in A Coruna, August 11

Due to race rules, half of the crew has to be under 26 years. Race 1 is sold out and race 2 is much asked for. We must pay close attention to the age of the trainees, in order not to get too many trainees over 26 and the risk of being disqualified. We have now opened a few Place for adults over 26 years!

The first race in 2016, which goes from Antwerp to Lisbon is already sold out. You can send us an e-mail if you want to be on the waitinglist: postmaster@radich.no. There are still places left on the other legs. Read more about the different voyages on our web-site, or download the brochure here: Voyages 2016

Valery VasilevskiyWhen the ships arrive in ports, the sailors are welcomed by a crowd of people. In the ports there are free concerts and entertainment for the whole family, crew parade which all trainees can attend, as well as award ceremonies. After three days of celebration, the festivals usually end with a grand firework, before the ships prepare for new voyages. We recommend that you stay for some of the festivities. You can stay one night on board the ship before or after arrival in the Tall Ships Race-ports. Beyond this, we recommend that you enter the port’s own website for further details on arrangements and accommodation.

Also a big thank to Emily who has worked as a volunteer on board, she was responsible for lay-out and illustrations. We mail the handbook to all trainees who ask for it. You can read it or download it.

About the summer voyages 2016

From Oslo to Kiel
The first summer voyage starts just before midsummer. After safety information and rig-training, the ship will set sail for Kiel. Summer is at its brightest up north and we will sail in the Danish archipelago, with mostly calm waters. We have plenty of time to reach Kiel in time, and we hope to sail as much as possible. In Kiel we meet the Kieler Woche, a sailing festival that characterizes the city for almost a whole week.

Through the Kiel Canal, from Kiel to Eemshaven
When Kieler Woche ends, we are heading towards Eemshaven, to the next festival, called DelfSail. We will go through the Kiel Canal for motor. The channel is like a floating highway through farmland and pleasant villages on land. If the wind is good to us, we will set sail after the Canal, and sail against Eemshaven. We arrive in the evening and the trainees leave the ship the next morning. Christian Radich is getting ready for the Sail-in with local passengers. Eemshaven and Delfzijl are not far from Amsterdam, which has numerous connecting flights. The voyage is short and varied, and it provides a taste of Christian Radich both through the Kiel Canal and under sail.

From Delfzijl to Antwerp
After a great sail parade from Delfzijl, we will sail for three days and nights along the coast outside Holland and Belgium. Also on this leg, we will have enough time to be able to sail much of the time. There will also be time to enjoy life on deck, and we hope the sun will be nice to us. The Tall Ships Races 2016 starts in Antwerp. The city is Belgium’s largest seaport and it’s known for its long maritime traditions. Antwerp has also previously been the host city for the Tall Ships Races.

Race 1, from Antwerp to Lisbon
This race, which lasts 12 days, has long traditions. The first race for training-ships was held in 1956, from Torbay to Lisbon. 60 years later we will sail almost the same route. Christian Radich was fastest of the square rigged ships in 1956, and she won the anniversary race in 2006. Now, 10 years later, we aim to win again, and many of our loyal trainees will join us! The City of Lisbon has southern charm, good food, and there is much to see and experience here. We recommend you to plan for a few extra days in the city.

Race 2, from Lisbon to Cadiz
After a few days in charming Lisbon, we prepare for a new race, a much shorter one this time. In these areas it may be difficult to make the right tactical choices. Currents and winds may alter the results from day to day, and will make the race even more exiting.  This is a popular leg, not least because the cities of Lisbon and Cadiz, have so much to offer. The small city of Cadiz has a nice old town, and many of the trainees would enjoy some extra days in this area. There are flights to the rest of Europe from the “sherry town” Jerez and Malaga is a couple of hours bus drive, away.

Race 3 and Cruise in Company from Cadiz to A Coruna
Cruise-in-Company starts in Cadiz, first with a short race to Sagres, before the fleet goes north along the coast of Algarve and to A Coruña.The leg ends in A Coruña, a great city that has previously been awarded for the best Tall Ship festivals. Santiago de Compostela is less than an hour away with train. It is the world’s most famous place of pilgrimage, and the apostle James is buried here. We recommend you to use this opportunity to visit this famous city. You will easy find flights to the rest of Europe from here.

North Sea Tall Ships Regatta, from Blyth to Gothenburg
Blyth is just north of Newcastle, and here starts an additional race. Many of the vessels from the Tall Ship fleet will join, and we can expect a fight for the first prize!  Summer vacation is terminated in Norway, but not in the North Sea! We have reason to hope for fair winds, at the best we will be reaching towards Gothenburg, hopefully faster than the competitors. The sailing city of Gothenburg welcomes the ships with a festival, which makes the end of several exiting summer voyages this year.

While voyages and Tall Ships Races this year still is clear in mind, we have started planning next year`s voyages. It is most likely Christian Radich will sail Tall Ships Races again in 2016. The schedule will be ready by late September/October.

Tall ships Races will start in Antwerp, Belgium:
Race 1: Antwerp -Lisbon: July 10 – 22
Race 2: Lisbon – Cadiz: July 25 – 28
Cruise in Company: Cadiz – A Coruna: July 31 – August 11

Welcome on board next year as a trainee both to newcomers and to you who have sailed with us before!

Mai tokt 2015A fantastic all-around experience exceeding all expectations. The crew and trainees alike  made this experience at sea on a tall ship memorable, and fantastically fun. This was, and would be, a wonderful life experience for anyone seeking sea air and a self challenge aboard a historic vessel surrounded by enthusiastic companions and a knowledgeable, welcoming crew. Plus, the food is great!

We are looking forward to welcome 50 maritime students as trainees this winter. They are all maritime students at Norwegian Colleges. The ship is headed for southern waters and the students will get practical skills on board. For Christian Radich, this is important because we get a basis for further operation all year round.
