Several of this summer’s voyages are now fully booked, but we still have some available seats for trainees aged 15-26 on our voyage from Lisbon-Càdiz from 25/07-28/07. To avoid disqualification, half of our trainees on board must be under the age of 26, which is why we have saved some spots for young trainees.

Be quick if you want to join!

You can book a spot here.

The regatta between Blyth and Gothenburg from 29/08-03/09 is now sold out, so unfortunately it is no longer possible to sign up. It’s great to see that so many have shown interest in joining the regatta, and we are certain it will be a fun and exciting voyage!
It is possible to get signed up on the waiting list by sending us an email.

This year’s cruise in Company has it all! It starts from Cádiz in Southern Spain with a short race to Sagres. From here, we lower our shoulders and sail north against A Coruna. We will do one or two stops on our way, where we haven’t decided yet. There are so many charming ports along the Portugeese coast, it’s hard to choose.

There are still places left, the price is: € 1295

Departure from Cádiz, July 31

Arrival in A Coruna, August 11

Due to race rules, half of the crew has to be under 26 years. Race 1 is sold out and race 2 is much asked for. We must pay close attention to the age of the trainees, in order not to get too many trainees over 26 and the risk of being disqualified. We have now opened a few Place for adults over 26 years!

The first race in 2016, which goes from Antwerp to Lisbon is already sold out. You can send us an e-mail if you want to be on the waitinglist: postmaster@radich.no. There are still places left on the other legs. Read more about the different voyages on our web-site, or download the brochure here: Voyages 2016

We wish all our trainees and friends a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

The Office is closed Christmas Eve, Dec 25. and 26. and New Years Eve. The other days we are open as usual between 0800 and 1600.

IMG_7664This year it was the third time that I sailed with Christian Radich. It is always a fantastic voyage. It is so thrilling to climb in the Rig, set sails and do a lot of other things – to be a part of it, to see how a Tallship works. Working with the other trainees in all ages from all over the world, to try to win the regatta hand in hand – one of the best experience of my life!

The crew and the Volunteers are very kind and very professional, real specialists! The ship is – compared to lot of other ships in a nearly perfect condition. The education on board is absolut perfect. So – don’t wait and sail with her as soon as possible. It will change you life and is a real life experience. I can’t wait to book the next Voyage for the Tall ship race 2016 – Antwerp to Lisbon and Cadiz. I really hope that Christian Radich will participate again.

The brochure with the summer voyages 2016 is ready and on it`s way to our faithful trainees and good friends. You can download it here: Voyages 2016 or you can send us an e-mail if you want us to mail it to you. What about giving a voyage to someone for Christmas? You can choose the amount on the presentcard. Questions? Send us an e-mail: postmaster@radich.no

Valery VasilevskiyWhen the ships arrive in ports, the sailors are welcomed by a crowd of people. In the ports there are free concerts and entertainment for the whole family, crew parade which all trainees can attend, as well as award ceremonies. After three days of celebration, the festivals usually end with a grand firework, before the ships prepare for new voyages. We recommend that you stay for some of the festivities. You can stay one night on board the ship before or after arrival in the Tall Ships Race-ports. Beyond this, we recommend that you enter the port’s own website for further details on arrangements and accommodation.

IMG_9044-kOne of my favourite moments on the Christian Radich happened whilst we were all on duty waiting for our next orders. It was quite cold so whilst waiting we decided to all start singing loudy and clapping and even managed to get the crew involved. We then decided to teach people The Waves of Tory (an Irish dance) which turned out to be a great way to warm up. The sing songs were hilarious and a great way of bonding. I know I have made some lifelong friends on the voyage and I wouldn’t have changed any part of it for the world. Thank you Christian Radich for letting me join you on such a fantastic adventure!

A beautiful voyage along the norwegian coast, including fjords. It was spectacular. I did not have much expectations about sailing in the open sea, but the captain (Jens-Joachim) did his best and made out good wind and nice sailing areas, so our beautiful ship was often enough under full sails. It was my 15th journey with Christian Radich and so… just let me have it again.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe got everything, sun, rain, storm, no wind, wind from the wrong or right direction, refreshing temperatures around 12 degrees, phantastic food!, physical (pull the rope) and mental (memorize the rope) training, full body input and increasing heart beat at the helm, meditation on lookout duty at sundawn, live Scottish Music in Ullapool, wonderful watch comrades, good talks and dedicated watch leaders. All this in the friendly warm atmosphere created by the crew made this voyage again one to unwind and gather new joy of life. Thank you!

300915_Forside_Håndbok_NETT_largeThis summer we launched a new Christian Radich handbook. Thanks to the crew who has worked a lot to make it easier and more up to date. Also a big thank to Emily who has worked as a volunteer on board, she was responsible for lay-out and illustrations. We mail the handbook to all trainees who ask for it. You can read it or download it.

Sailing with Christian Radich means meeting new, interesting people, learning how to cooperate and coexist in – sometimes – tough conditions, and still hava a hell of a good time! If you sail around the Canary Islands, as I did, you will also have the pleasure of meeting schools of dolphins who play in the Atlantic waves, enjoy nights with beautiful stars & bright moon, as well as lots of good food and good fun!

If you love sailing, if you love the sea, sail with Christian Radich! An adventure and a memory for life!

Kerstin Otterstål sailed with us around the Canaries in January 2015

While voyages and Tall Ships Races this year still is clear in mind, we have started planning next year`s voyages. It is most likely Christian Radich will sail Tall Ships Races again in 2016. The schedule will be ready by late September/October.

Tall ships Races will start in Antwerp, Belgium:
Race 1: Antwerp -Lisbon: July 10 – 22
Race 2: Lisbon – Cadiz: July 25 – 28
Cruise in Company: Cadiz – A Coruna: July 31 – August 11

Welcome on board next year as a trainee both to newcomers and to you who have sailed with us before!

Mai tokt 2015A fantastic all-around experience exceeding all expectations. The crew and trainees alike  made this experience at sea on a tall ship memorable, and fantastically fun. This was, and would be, a wonderful life experience for anyone seeking sea air and a self challenge aboard a historic vessel surrounded by enthusiastic companions and a knowledgeable, welcoming crew. Plus, the food is great!

We are looking forward to welcome 50 maritime students as trainees this winter. They are all maritime students at Norwegian Colleges. The ship is headed for southern waters and the students will get practical skills on board. For Christian Radich, this is important because we get a basis for further operation all year round.

Vladimir Guerrero remembers his voyage and SAIL 90 (now Sail Amsterdam) in 1990. On a sailship, there is no big changes in 25 years. The wind, the sea and the feling is the same, even though the crew changes. Well, some of the trainees keep coming back year after year. Read Vladimirs story: Radich 1990

Whenever I book to sail with Christian Radich I get excited and this continues right up to getting on board.  The first few days of getting used to the ship again (sometimes I am a bit seasick) I wonder “why am I doing this”, sometimes I think – “this will be my last voyage”. BUT each time, about half way through the journey I know why I am doing it and on the last day when we all muster on deck and hear from the Captain I know I will sail again with the Christian Radich.  It is one of the best and most exciting sailing experiences anyone who loves the sea can have…

Don Tomlinson has been trainee on board several times

My voyage with the Christian Radich was a succes. It was not my first and for sure not the last voyage with her! I always join the 4-8 watch which I love. The education in sailing the ship was nearly perfect. All crewmembers were always friendly and open for questions. The ship itself is in an marvellous condition. The food is realy very good, thanks to the cooks aboard.
I thought about sailing with another ship this year. Fortunately my decision goes back to the Radich because I wanted to meet some people again.
For the future it is for sure…there is only one ship to go: CRISTIAN RADICH
I want to thank the whole crew and all who cares about the ship for the hospitality, education, maintenance, donor and so on.
Thank you also to all Trainees with whom I sailed With on the race between Harlingen and Fredrikstad. We made the 3rd Place, on Race 2 from Bergen to Esbjerg the Radich wins hopefully.
I can’t wait to sail with her on TSR 2015, Jens Grothusen

It’s was the beautiful summer evening in Hardanger Fjord, when we seen the Windjammer movie. the feeling was so indescribable, to see the dream of my childhood 55 years ago, mixed whit the reality now a board the same ship. For me it was like a norwegian  “Summernight Dream” in a warm heartily atmosphere in a wonderful scenery.

Med venlig hilsen Peter Nadler, trainee on Cruise in Company 2014

The last race in Tall Ships Races this summer, between Kristiansand and Aalborg  is already sold out! From Belfast to Ålesund there are more places, but we must prioritize youth. According to STI`s race rules half of the crew has to be under 26 years. The races are filled with actions. We participate to win! We focus on sailing as much as possible on all legs, whether it is race or not. The voyages are varied and we are sure you will find one that suits you.

The weather forecast says fair winds to Shetland and we wish you a pleasant voyage! We would be pleased if you share your Christian Radich experience on tripadvisor: https://www.facebook.com/seilskipetchri…/app_254084314702229:

Practicalities

The ship can accommodate 80 trainees – everyone can sail with Christian Radich – and they do! Each trainee is assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. Among the duties are lookout, fire-and safety patrols, sail manoeuvres and steering – all performed under professional supervision. The sail manoeuvres can be demanding, but spectacular. Entering the rig is the ultimate event to many, but it is not mandatory.

The trainees sleep in hammocks or bunk beds in two comfortable, air-conditioned dormitories below deck. The ship has modern shower facilities and serves three excellent meals per day. A small slope chest is also available where souvenirs, toiletries and snacks can be purchased.

Appropriate clothing is necessary, including rainwear and warm and windproof clothes.  Further information regarding what to bring along will be sent out with the trainee handbook after registration.

The age limit is 15 years (on departure date), or 12 years when sailing with parents on non-race legs . If you are over 70 years of age, we need a health certificate from your doctor. You must be healthy enough to participate in the work on board.

AKERSHUS STRANDA

During the time Christian Radich stays in Oslo in May, June and August, we will arrange some nice fjord cruises in the beautiful Oslofjord. Christian Radich uses engine on fjord cruises, but you get a feeling of the ships history and the power when she sails. The cruises start from the Akershus-pier, just across the town hall. The captain decides each time where to go, due to weather and wind. If you are in Oslo one of the days we arrange a fjord cruise, we recommend you to join!
