Enkelte byger.

Mvh,

Daniel Ingebretsen, Styrmann Christian Radich

Mvh,

Oss på Christian Radich

As a trainee, you will participate in the duties on board according to your own condition and interests. Being a trainee is a positive challenge for body and mind. No previous knowledge is required in order to sail with Christian Radich.

The more trainees who will climb aloft, the more we are able to set sails. We also need trainees on deck, to pull the ropes. If you don’t want to climb the rig, you must inform your watch leader. During calm seas, trainees often practice knots, sailing skills and seamanship.

Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams, which have 4 hours duty and 8 hours off- both day and night.

Lookout: The lookout are placed in the front of the ship and will notice everything that is observed in the sea: Boats, fishing gear, wreckage or other floating goods. You use the ship’s clock for signal to the helm.

Helmsman: The helmsman steers the ship under the guidance of the crew. For many, this is a great experience.

Fire and safety watch: The safety-watch patrols the ship every half hour, starting on deck and following a designated patrol route.

Pantry: One or two trainees from each shift may help in the pantry.

Other tasks: When trainees are not assigned to a special task, you participate in sail maneuvers, regular maintenance or help with cleaning.

Caribbean, Cartagena, Havanna, Bermuda, what about sailing into these exotic harbours in one of the world’s greatest windjammers! We are planning some exciting voyages coming autumn and winter. The ship will cross the Atlantic from Las Palmas to St Lucia in November, hereafter we will have voyages up to three weeks including stops in exotic ports. Wind, ocean and freedom, a dream can become reality! Sailing excperience is not necessary, our crew will supervise you on Board.

Description of the stages:

 Las Palmas – St. Marteen:

We leave Las Palmas 5th of November. We are sailing alongside the famous Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) regatta, this time a stop to Cape Verde. We do not participate in the regatta, but we will start on 5th of November. This time we will sail through Cape Verde. There we have a day’s stay in Mindelo at Sao Vicente. The majority of the population consists of creoles, the islands were an intermediary for slave trade to America.  After spending weeks in the sea, we arrive at St. Marteen, which is one of the best organized places in the Caribbean.

St. Marteen – Grenada:

Now we sail southwards along the Caribbean islands. This island kingdom is considered one of the most attractive in the area. And we take advantage of the fact that the entry permit on the first island applies to the entire area. This way we reduce the bureaucracy and have the most time for ourselves, at several anchorages. They are on the west side of the island, in the shelter of the wind, and there is a lot of sunscreen and bleaching of the bathing glove in the intense sole.

Grenada – Cartagena:

From Grenada, it is on long journeys again, against the exciting country of Colombia and the capital of Cartagena. On the map this sea area may seem small, but the open seas also dominate here. The weather is stable in these areas in December, the current is with us, and the wind is mostly from the east. Therefore, we can sail large parts of the stage. Colombia has been characterized by internal turmoil, but now peace has come and we can meet in a peaceful environment an exciting city and a very warm and friendly people.

Cartagena – Havana:

Now we will sail northwards, and in a part of the Caribbean that has many pearls of small archipelagos. We have pointed out the perhaps best of those, Isla de Providencia.

Lonely Planet describes the islands as something absolutely outstanding. After a few days we will continue on in sunny Caribbean

The tour ends in Cuba’s capital Havana. The magnificent city has gained a significant boost after the tourists have arrived, but one can still feel a lot of the old dictatorship.

Havana – St. Marteen:

We have now set up a new and exciting route. We are planning to visit another city in Cuba, such as Santiago de Cuba.  On the route further towards St. Marteen we pass the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and a number of places most have just dreamed about.  And after a good sail, we arrive at the beginning, Sta. Marteen.

St. Marteen – Azorene:

This is the stage for those who want an extra feather in the hat. Crossing the Atlantic west is easier, now we have to travel north through the Sargasso Sea to find a tailwind. And then it is natural to stop a little-visited gem at this time of year, namely Bermuda.

Further towards the Azores, the North Atlantic offers sailing conditions that may be challenging for pleasure craft, but for Christian Radich it is safe and secure.

After two weeks at sea, the Azores emerge, we land at Faial, where the city of Horta welcomes us.

Azorene – A Coruña:

From Horta there will be shorter stages again. We are still in the Atlantic, on the volcanic Atlantic Ridge, before heading eastwards, usually good sailing winds.

We end up in A Coruña, a nice town on the northwest tip of Spain, which we have had the pleasure of visiting a number of times.

Combine your trip with a visit to Santiago de Compostela, it is the most visited place of pilgrims, very nice and with a special atmosphere.

A Coruña – Harlingen:

Spring has come, and now there are many conditions to sail northwards again.  We are going to cross Biscaya, an area where autumn and winter time can challenge, but which has now calmed down, giving us an opportunity for great sailing.  We expect to sail most of the time against the English Channel, hoping for a tailwind, we can also sail there, towards our ultimate goal.

Summer voyages 2018!

Some people are wondering about next summer`s sailing program.

We can reveal that Christian Radich will again participate in Tall Ships Races Summer 2018.

Voyages and prices will med ready during this September, and then we will start the booking for the voyages.

The regatta starts in Sunderland in England July 14th and ends in Harlingen, The Netherlands on August 3rd.

We will also arrange voyages before Sunderland and after Harlingen.

Sunderland – Esbjerg 14th-18th of July, regatta

Esbjerg- Stavanger, 21th – 26th of July, Cruise in Company

Stavanger-Harlingen, July 29 – August 3rd

Christian Radich came a little behind from the start in Torbay, but she does her best to keep up. The internet is not too good, but on www.sailonboard.com you can follow the race, and you can also be updated on the map: https://www.sailonboard.com/yb-satellite-tracking/  Here is the official report from day 2:

Race 1 of the incredible Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta is in full swing, after the race start in Torbay yesterday (Wednesday 19 April) afternoon.

The vessels have made steady progress toward WP 1 (Way Point 1) off Ushant, following the light-wind start yesterday. The Bermudan cutter Peter von Danzig (Germany) is in the lead on the water, just six miles ahead of Rona II (UK). Wylde Swan (The Netherlands) is a further five miles behind her, with Jolie Brise (UK) within sight and closing her fast. Jolie Brise is in first place on corrected time (handicap) with the French Naval yacht Hosanna (France) in second place on corrected time.

Race Control is waiting for confirmation from Vera Cruz (Portugal) that she has officially retired from Race 1 and is proceeding directly to the second port of the race, Sines, due to the light winds.

“The wind is forecast is to remain in a favourable easterly direction and to increase gradually over the next couple of days, so the sailing conditions should be ideal for the passage across the Bay of Biscay.”

Paul Bishop, Race Director.

The jubilee-voyages along the coast of Norway are popular and the voyage from Tromsø to Hammerfest are sold out. Our friends, sailing with us every summer are interested in the summer-voyages, and we also get a lot of interest and request from people who have never sailed a tall ship.

They all realise that this is an extraordinary way to see and feel the beautiful coast of Norway. If you want to be sure to join on your favourable voyage, you have to book it as soon as possible.

You can book online: https://web-prod-radc.carus.com, and do the payment at the same time, or you can send us the bookingform: booking-summer-voyages. If you chooses the last, you will first pay a deposit and then the rest latest a month before departure. There is also an additional administration fee of € 15.

Please contact us if you have any questions, either on phone: +47 22 47 82 70 or email: postmaster@radich.no

Christian Radich is moored out in the river Thames, crew and trainees have to take shuttleboats to the ship. The shuttles will start to go from the ORNC-garden, opposite the regular ticket offices of Thames clipper and City Cruises (see map below) at 1600 on Sunday 16th. If you arrive Greenwich later than 1800, please inform us as soon as possible.

On this site you find information about Greenwich and how to get here: https://www.visitgreenwich.org.uk/tall-ships-festival-villages/.

The ship will leave Greenwich the next morning. Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. You can read more about the job you do as trainee on our web site: https://www.radich.no/en/join-us.

On this link https://my.yb.tl/christianradich/ you can always see where Christian Radich is. Friends and family at home, would perhaps think it’s nice to follow the race.

You will hopefully have some exciting days at sea before you arrive Sines. The opening ceremony is Friday 28th at 5 pm, so all ships have to be moored before that time. You can stay onboard until the 29th. On Saturday the city will arrange Crew-parade and Crew-party. Some of you have also booked the night from 29th and it includes breakfast in the morning. If not and you want to book this extra night, it costs € 60, e-mail to postmaster@radich.no

What should I pack?

The most important thing to remember when packing is clothes that are waterproof, windproof and good shoes. It can be cold at sea, especially at night, and we are still in April. Here is link to the packing-list: https://www.radich.no/en/packinglist/

Have you forgotten anything?

Fair Winds!

Working togetherFrom the first day when I was on board everything was excellent because the crew was so social and we all had communication with each other until the last day. The point is that this voyage change you in many ways that you don’t know and you learn new experiences which you don’t learn anywhere else. Anyway, if you are lucky to travel with Christian Radich I would say you’re going to have the most spectacular trip ever.

Yours, Fotis Giannopoulos

It is now getting close to departure for the winter-voyage with Christian Radich, January 4th. You have to be onboard latest 5 pm. If you will arrive the day before, please inform us if you arrive after 8 pm.  Christian Radich will be at the cruiseterminal, easily seen. The airport is located approx. 18 km’s south of Las Palmas. There are two means of transport:

  1. Bus, which is cheap. A direct bus (no. 60) leaves from the departure hall (above the arrival hall) once per hour. Ask the information desk! Leave the bus at the Cruise terminal roundabout, see map underneath.
  1. Taxi, which costs approx. € 35. Taxis take up to four passengers, so those who join forces may get an affordable transportation solution. Ask the taxi to stop at the cruise terminal. It is called in Spanish “Muelle Sta. Catalina” (muelle = quay, pronounced: moejje)

On this link https://my.yb.tl/christianradich/ you can always see where Christian Radich is.

Each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. You can read more about the job you do as trainee on our web site: https://www.radich.no/en/join-us.

We are looking forward to welcome you on board the Christian Radich!

There are still Places left if you want to join this voyage. See here for more info.

If you want to compete in a race this year, you must join Christian Radich in the first leg in the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta which starts in Greenwich, just outside London. If you like competition and race, this is the voyage to join. It will be the only race Christian Radich will participate in this year, and as always we will do our best to win the first prize! Many of the trainees are students who soon will finish their school year on board, but we have places left for everyone else to join. Whether you have sailed with us before or it’s the first time, you are welcome!

Everyone can sail with Christian Radich, and it’s the variety of our trainees, young, old, experienced or not, which makes a voyage with us a life-changing experience! We expect the race to be close, the Captain will make the best choices, due to wind and weather. The introduction and rig-training will probably start when the ships goes out the river Thames. Christian Radich is celebrating her 80th Anniversary in 2017. As we did five years ago, we will celebrate with voyages along the Norwegian coast. We plan to go as far North as to North Cape this time as well. You can read more about the summer voyages here:

295Oslo – Den Helder: 18- 22/6
There are always people waving goodbye on Akershuskaia when Christian Radich leaves her home-port for the summer voyages. This time we are headed towards the Dutch “Sail Festival Den Helder.” As always, we start the voyage with security and rig-training, going out the Oslofjord. As soon as we reach good winds, we will set sails.

Price: 625 euros p.p.

IMG_8895-kDen Helder – Stavanger: 25- 29/6
Our trainees will join the “Sail-out”- Parade when all the ships are leaving the Sail Festival. Christian Radich is heading north towards Stavanger and the Jubilee-voyages along the Norwegian coast. We hope for fair winds over the North Sea in order to sail as much as possible. We have planned enough time to make a stop in a nice local port, Sirevåg, a small seaside village.

You can combine the voyages and stay on Board for Oslo – Stavanger and get the three nights in Den Helder for free.

img_9764Stavanger – Tromsø: 30 / 6-7 / 7
From the oil-city, Stavanger you will join the longest leg this summer, all the way up to Tromsø. We hope the winds are with us, as they most often are this time of the year. That means a lot of sailing. Along the way you will notice how different the Norway’s coastline is. Western Norway’s coast is often steep, with fjords, islands and mountains. Further north, from Nord-Trøndelag, through the unique coast of Helgeland against the Vestfjorden, there are hundreds of thousands of islands.
Then we meet the famous Lofoten, a fantastic area, with steep mountains straight down to the sea. As far north as this, the tide and currents are strong. The captain will have this in mind when he sets the route. Maybe we will go out and see Lofoten from the outside, or we can choose to go through one of the narrow fjords. In Lofoten we meet Vesterålen, Andøya and the beautiful island Senja, before we go into quay in Tromsø, the city called “Paris of the North”. We have calculated enough time, so we can make some stops along the way, and the options are so many.

img_9634Tromsø – Hammerfest around North Cape: 8-11 / 7 – sold out!
The landscape around Tromsø attracts thousands of tourists every year. The nature is wild and dramatic, but you will also find beautiful sandy beaches. You can see glaciers going all the way down to the coast. We will go even further north from Tromsø, and here you will see that the landscape has changed again. From the dramatic mountains, you see it’s more desolated. We will see small fishing villages placed to be protected from the winter storms. But in the summer the winds are calm, and the villages are competing to attract the many visitors.

We will sail around Magerøya, the North Cape and Knivskjellodden, Norway’s northernmost point. All this on board the world’s most beautiful full-rigged windjammer on her 80th Jubilee-voyages! Arriving in Hammerfest will be at the same time as they arrange a local festival “Hammerfestdagan”. The city has gained a strong economic recovery after the discovery of oil and gas.

trollfjorden-kompHammerfest – Svolvær: 12-18 / 7
On the map you can see that the route from Hammerfest to Svolvær has many turns, inside and out again, around fjords and islands. We want to explore the beautiful coast and there are so many “must-see” places, it’s hard to choose. We have calculated plenty of time on this leg. We will visit small villages, where the hospitality is striking, and where we can experience the local culture at its very best. As always we haven’t got a detailed plan, the weather is an important factor.

Among the places we are planning to see, is Senja, Andøya, Vesterålen and Lofoten from the outside, with the famous sandy beaches. Here you find the country’s best area for whale watching, and if we are lucky, we will see these huge animals close up against the ship’s side. We have been here before, and going in to Trollfjorden is a must! To see Lofoten and the country’s finest tourist attractions from the ocean is even better than from land. And remember that the light invites us to be awake all day and night.

img_8312Svolvær-Bodø: 19-24 / 7
Lofoten, Vestfjorden and Vesterålen are among Norway’s most important tourist attractions. Again we have calculated enough time to see and feel the nature and local attractions. The voyage will go among the islands and in the fjords. We will see fishing villages, white sandy beaches and mountains higher than 1000 m. There will many attractions on our way, we will sail and we will have a memorable time together. Maybe we will do some fishing, and we might get fish enough for the whole ship.

We will meet Hurtigruten several times along our way, perhaps even in Trollfjorden, if we are lucky. We plan to go into Trollfjorden on this leg as well, it’s so unique. Or maybe we shall sail into the Tysfjord and see Stetind, Norway’s national mountain? There are so many possibilities, it’s hard to choose. Famous places like Henningsvær, Værøy and Røst among others are close by. We certainly will make a stop somewhere. The captain will tell you which route will be the best, the wind and weather taken into consideration. If you combine this leg with another, both the coast of Helgeland and North Cape are places you can’t forget.

bertrs3jjBodø-Ålesund: 25-31 / 7
On this voyage we will sail along the most stunning coastline we have in Norway, the coast of Helgeland. Well, Lofoten is great with its high mountains. But Helgeland’s mountains are also high. Here you can see the unique mountains “Dønnmannen”, “Lovund”, “Rødøyløva” and the “Seven Sisters”. Among these majestic mountains, there are thousands of small islands. Many of them have former fishing villages from where people gradually left for a better life in the cities. Nowadays aquaculture has taken over as the most important industry, and many smaller fishing villages are restored and have become tourist attractions.

You see islands far out to the North Sea and the one as far as you can come, is Træna. This fishing village is dating from ancient times, nearly 9,000 years ago. Everywhere up north there is a unique birdlife. On the mainland, the glacier Svartisen is among the high peaks.

We plan to anchor in Holandsfjorden, from here it’s less than an hour with easy hiking to the glacier Engabreen, an arm of Svartisen, Norway’s second largest glacier. You’re going to fall in love with this area. The voyage towards Ålesund goes further by Folla and we will pass Frøya, this island has become an important center for the production of salmon.

IMG0001Ålesund Shetland-Haugesund: 1-10 / 8
Join Christian Radich westwards! For over thousand years ago the Vikings sailed westwards to Shetland, Orkney and the Hebrides. There are many rumors about their brutal behavior, and most of it is exaggerated. Most of the Vikings had good intentions and they were traders. Today the Norwegians are very welcome on these islands. We will be visiting Lerwick in Shetland, a city with small shops, restaurants and bars.

On our way back to Norway and towards Haugesund, we sail past the Orkneys, and if we have time, we will go ashore here, too. In Kirkwall, the famous cathedral is called St. Magnus Cathedral. It was founded in 1137 by the Viking, Earl Rognvald, in honour of his uncle St. Magnus. The natural harbor of Scapa Flow played a role both in the 1st and 2nd World War. In Haugesund the annual “Sildajazz” -festival attracts 50,000 visitors.

For those of you who really loves to be on board  Christian Radich, you get a special offer if you join us from Bodø to Haugesund.

CIMG1065Haugesund-Oslo: 13-17 / 8
The voyage towards Oslo will be along the south coast with rich history from the time when the windjammers ruled the sea. But first we will do a fjordcruise from the Jazzfestival in Haugesund to the charming city Skudeneshavn. We will also invite local passengers on this cruise. In Skudenesnavn our trainees will go ashore for a guided tour, while the locals are having a fjordcruise. Next day we set sail for Oslo along a coast full of history.

Just think of the Napoleon War, when Norwegians with the law in hand hijacked enemy ships and sold them, including the cargo they had. The income from this made many local hijackers millionaires in today’s money. Piloting began when locals advised sailing ships where they could sail. The goal was to earn enough money to start as a shipowner. This contributed to the fact that Norway was a dominant windjammer nation in the 18th century. If time allows it, we will sail to Skagen in Denmark, or Koster in Sweden? But first and foremost, we hope for good winds and to sail as much as possible.

This year’s aquavit cruise was a big success and you can already book a spot for next year’s event.

Next year’s aquavit cruise in the Oslo fjord will be held on the 26th of August. On this cool summer evening we will be serving a shrimp buffet on board, and you will get to taste aquavits that complement the fruits of the sea. If the mood is right, maybe a dance on the deck is in place?

More fjord cruise events will be available for booking in January.

This has been quite a summer! It began in Oslo with aquavit, pirates and blues music in the Oslo fjord, and from there we set sails and headed south. The first voyage brought us to Kiel and the festivities of Kieler Woche. From there we sailed to Deilfzijl and later to Antwerp, where the first Tall Ships Race regatta kicked off. On the first leg we completely lost wind, but on the regatta from Lisbon to Cadiz we won second place in class A and the prize for most international crew with a total of 18 nationalities on board. The last Tall Ships Race regatta brought us to La Coruña, and via Le Havre we sailed to Blyth. From there we joined the North Sea Tall Ships regatta to Gothenburg, for which we won second place in class A. What an adventure it’s been!

We would like to thank everyone who has sailed with us this summer for making it a truly great one with many memorable moments. We love to receive photos from our trainees, and if you wonder what this summer has looked like through various camera lenses, you can see some photos on Facebook.

We hope to see you again next year!

Due to last minute cancellations, we now have a few available spots on the North Sea Regatta between Blyth and Gothenburg August 29th – September 3rd. Hurry up and book a spot if you want to extend your vacation and join us on board!

Blyth is located north of Newcastle, and from there we will embark on a regatta suited for enthusiastic sailors. Read more about the regatta and secure a spot here. You can also read about what you can expect as a trainee on board Christian Radich.

It is now getting close to departure for the North Sea Tall Ships Regatta with Christian Radich, from Blyth to Gothenburg. On the map, you can see where you find Christian Radich in Blyth. You can always keep track of where Christian Radich is.

Blyth and Gothenburg

In Blyth, hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to show up for the events, which include fireworks by night, live music and grand parades. You can read more about the events here. If you are spending the night on board August 28th, the deck will be rented out for an event, and we recommend you to go ashore and feel the atmosphere in port. Check-in will be as usual.

You can read about the arrangements  in Gothenburg here.

On Saturday evening we have signed the crew and trainees up for the “Crew Stage Challenge”. Each crew performs in front of the audience ashore, and a jury will award the best ship. If you have any ideas for a song or something fun that the trainees can rehearse on board, you can contact the steward. All ideas are welcome!

In Gothenburg, the deck will be rented out September 4th and 5th. The guests have no access  below deck, but we recommend you to be ashore and join the festivities.

When the ship leaves Blyth, each trainee will be assigned to one of three watch teams which have 4 hours on duty and 8 hours off – both day and night. You can read more about the job you do as trainee here. Have you not received our handbook, please contact us at postmaster@radich.no and we will send you one.

Right this moment we are waiting impatiently for the winds to catch our sails, but the Tall Ships Races are not just about winning a regatta! Team spirit and cooperation are important for secure sailing and driving the ship forwards, and the fact that our trainees range from youth to pensioners and come from all corners of the world makes sailing extra fun and challenging. This year we have trainees from more than 20 countries on four continents – Europe, Asia, South America and USA – on board.

When you’re out to sea, weather conditions determine your living conditions and general well being, and are therefore a natural topic for conversation. Trainees come together to solve practical tasks and share experiences, which makes it easy to find something to talk about. These are some of the reasons why sailing is an excellent platform for people of all ages from all over the world to gather around!

You find updated news on Sail Training International`s website: https://www.sailtraininginternational.org/news:

“Race One of The Tall Ships Races 2016 starts five miles off the coast of Torbay, UK. The STI Race Committee needs to start the race here due to international shipping regulations out of Antwerp, through the Dover Straits and into the English Channel. The traffic separation schemes through these areas of high volume commercial shipping mean that sailing routes are unsuitable for the tall ships race fleet.

“Torbay offers an ideal start area for the international fleet, particularly the large square rigged sailing vessels – and coincidentally it is the same race start area and route in the first ever tall ships race 60 years ago.”

You can also follow the fleet’s progress via the Yellow Brick tracking system from the Sail Training International website: https://www.sailtraininginternational.org/events/2016-the-tall-ships-races/yellow-brick

We are looking forward to welcome you on board the Christian Radich!

Earlier today, an email including tips and information about this summer’s voyages was sent to this summer’s trainees on board Christian Radich. If you have booked a voyage on board but did not receive the email, it is possible that we either have the wrong email address or that the email is caught in your spam filter. The email includes the following information:

Traveling to and from ports
You must book transportation to and from ports yourself, and to make it easier for you to plan your trip we have listed some traveling options. These are only suggestions, and there are plenty of alternatives. If you combine the voyage with a vacation, other routes may be more sensible.

Valid passport
It is important that your passport is valid during the voyage. If your passport is about to expire, we recommend that you renew it as soon as possible.
All trainees must submit their passport number. If you have not sent us yours yet, please email it to postmaster@radich.no no later than two weeks before departure.

If you are over 70 years old, you must send us a health form. If you have not done so already, please email it to us as soon as possible.

Expectations
Do you wonder what to expect on a voyage? The most important information about voyages can be found on our website. The quotes below is feedback from trainees who have previously sailed with us, which may give you an idea of how some people experience going on a voyage:

I was apprehensive and anxious about the voyage, being with strangers and if I was capable to do some tasks but after the experience I don’t know why I was so worried. The people are so friendly and caring as we’re all on the same boat, quite literally. You form a bond with the crew and the trainees on your watch, making unforgettable friendships and experiences together. The crew are extremely helpful when it comes to tasks and do their best to make sure your comfortable, they always keep you up to date and well fed with knowledge. I’ll never forget the Christian Radich, it becomes home, I miss it very much and hope to return.

One of my favourite moments on the Christian Radich happened whilst we were all on duty waiting for our next orders. It was quite cold so whilst waiting we decided to all start singing loudy and clapping and even managed to get the crew involved. We then decided to teach people The Waves of Tory (an Irish dance) which turned out to be a great way to warm up. The sing songs were hilarious and a great way of bonding. I know I have made some lifelong friends on the voyage and I wouldn’t have changed any part of it for the world. Thank you Christian Radich for letting me join you on such a fantastic adventure!

Have you ordered a handbook but not received it yet? Download it from our website or contact us at postmaster@radich.no and we will send you a copy.

There are still some available spots on this summer’s voyage from Cádiz to La Coruña! Cruise-in-Company starts in Cadiz, first with a short race to Sagres, before the fleet goes north along the coast of Algarve and to La Coruña, where the leg ends. La Coruña is a great city that has previously been awarded for the best Tall Ship festivals.

Do you find it tricky getting to and from ports? Here are some tips:

Cádiz
The closest airport is Jerez, roughly one hour by train from Cádiz. Ryanair flies to Jerez, as do local airlines from for instance Madrid and Barcelona. There is a bus from central Malaga to Cádiz. The bus ride takes approx. 4 hours and costs ca. €40. It is also possible to fly to Madrid and travel to Cádiz by high speed train, which takes approx. 3,5 hours. Traveling from Sevilla, it is possible to take a bus to Cádiz.

Bus from Malaga: www.venta.avanzabus.com
Bus Jerez – Cádiz: https://siu.cmtbc.es/en/horarios_lineas.php?municipioLineas=42

La Coruña
Flying via Madrid is the quickest way to travel to and from La Coruña.  There is no bus from central La Coruña to the airport, but taxis are available and the port is approx. a 15 minute drive from the station.

It is also possible to travel by train to Santiago De Compostela, which takes a bit less than an hour. Ryanair, among other airlines, fly to Santiago. A stopover should be calculated.

Tall Ships Races visits some old and traditional ports in Spain this year. Cádiz on the Southwestern coast, situated on a narrow slice of land surrounded by the sea‚ it is, in most respects, a typically Andalusian city. Cruise-in-Company starts here, goes along the coast of Portugal and ends in A Coruna, northwest in Spain. Both cities have long maritime traditions and are worth visiting.

If you find it hard to travel to and from these Cities, we have a few tips for you: To and from ports

Fridtjof is known to many of the crew and also trainees, after two periods on board the Christian Radich, as 2nd mate in 2003 and later as 1st mate in 2007-2009.

Fridtjof starts during the summer and we are looking forward to welcome him on board.
